Item for General Assembly of IOI 2000

The International Committee have discussed the possibility of selecting the best solutions to the tasks from IOI for publication on the Web or in some printed form.

This has raised some concerns as it could be seen as an infringement of the Intellectual Property Rights of some individuals. On that basis legal opinion was obtained. It was suggested that the registration form/s for IOI be amended to include the following wording:

"By entering or participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics, the contestant consents to the use and publication by the International Olympiad in Informatics of the solutions produced by the contestant"

In the event of material being selected for publication, due acknowledgement/recognition will be given.

For previous IOI’s it will be necessary to obtain permission from each individual participant whose material may be used.

As there are considerable differences in the legal implications amongst the countries participating in IOI it is necessary to raise the matter with GA for guidance and a decision.
