IOI IC Web Meeting November 29, 2005; 14:00-15:00 GMT Draft Minutes Remark: Some IC members had problems connecting to the meeting, either by phone or by internet. Therefore, the meeting started with a delay of about 15 minutes. Present: Ricardo Anido (for some time) Arturo Cepeda Zide Du Yasser A. Ghany Lionel Hartman (until about 14:45) Krassimir Manev (for some time) Don Piele Wolfgang Pohl Ivo Separovic Apologized: Richard Forster Tom Verhoeff 1. Approval of the Minutes of the IC meeting during IOI 2005 Lionel reports he acted upon the few comments he received. He will send an updated version, which was approved a priori. 2. Comments to the Minutes of the GA meeting during IOI 2005 The only major issue is the "straw vote" of GA in favor of having the GA approve the IOI budget in the future. Wolfgang, who raised this issue, agrees on keeping this informal move out of the minutes. However, the issue needs to be put on the agenda of the March meeting in Mexico. 3. Report about generation of new TED Zide reports that Lionel resigned from the position of ED, effective from December 31, 2005. Lionel reports that his current health situation is stable and thanks IC members for their support. IC members wish him well. Zide further reports that, after consulting the IC, he nominated Wolfgang to temporarily take the position of ED as from January 1, 2006. It is made clear that this nomination holds until IOI 2006 only. 4. New banking account and money transfer Wolfgang reports that a new account (in Euro currency) has been opened in Germany. Account information was sent to both Lionel and Krzysztof. So far, no money has arrived. Lionel reports that he initiated the transfer, but the money (about 318.000,- Rand) is still held by the bank in South Africa. He will keep pushing and make the bank pay interest for the delay time. Addendum: IOI 2005 registration fees (19,800.00 US$) have been transferred, so that the account now holds 16,861.57 Euro. 5. Matters from the Minutes 5.1 IOI Handbook Krzyzstof reports that he is currently working on the final report of IOI 2005. The handbook is being prepared within a student project. (K. gave some details which I do not remember.) 5.2 IOI Website (Here, I do not remember the details either.) 5.3 IOI Information System The system has not made further progress; Wolfgang currently concentrates on the workshop. Wolfgang supports Tom Verhoeff's suggestion to establish a new mailing list with permanent IOI contacts as a temporary solution. This suggestion is welcome, since it is important to have a reliable channel to the permanent country contacts. 5.4 Training Material -- cancelled -- 5.5 Authorizing the ISC to approve the tasks -- cancelled -- 6. Report of Progress with Workshop in January Wolfgang reports that 18 submissions to the workshop were received. The programme committee reviewed the submissions within a very short period. Currently, Wolfgang is sending notifications to accepted participants. The workshop will take place in Dagstuhl, Germany, from January 23-27 (arrival day: January 22). 7. Contact with UNESCO Zide reports that he wrote letters to UNESCO representatives, but has not yet received a substantial reply. He keeps trying. 8. Issues about IOI 2006 Arturo reports: 8.1 Competition dates: August 13-20 (Sunday to Sunday) 8.2 IC meeting in March: March 18-23 (parallel to ISC meeting, which will start one day earlier; including arrival and departure days) 8.3 Promotion and Government Support / 8.4 Finance guaranteed: All expenses for IOI 2006 are in the Mexican state budget for 2006. Arturo needs IC members to give their data, so that he can send the invitations that are necessary for obtaining visa. He will send a mail to the IC list, specifying what he needs to know. 9. Thoughts on IOI / 11. Proposal to set up a "research group" Zide reports that he received several reactions to his "Thinking on the IOI" document, but not all IC members had time for it. He therefore suggests to establish a subgroup of IC who will further develop these ideas and suggestions. 10. Internal Communications Krassimir will prepare proposals. 12. Other issues There were no further issues.
