IOI'2002 Delegation Questionnaire
Notes
There were ? delegations at IOI2002.
All delegations received a questionnaire.
By the end of IOI2002, we had received 52 completed forms (about ?%)
from the delegations, and 3 forms from (former) IC/ISC members (these 3
have not been included in the statistics; they had no further comments).
The survey was optionally anonymous.
All results published here are anonymized.
Brief summary of results
- 1..4: The majority prefers that all tasks
are algorithmic in nature,
focus on problem solving,
and concern informatics.
Many would like to open the door for a single non-algorithmic task.
40% prefers elementary solutions, but many indicate that it is
not clear what is meant by elementary, or they don't find it important.
- 5..15: most of the items mentioned are considered inappropriate
for the IOI,
with the clear exception of max-flow, and
with considerable room for heuristics and approximation,
and to a lesser extent also for numerical computations
- 16: 2/3 indicate that contestants should not have to worry about
numerical 'traps'
- 17..19: many answers are not internally consistent, but the trend
is towards greater diversity in difficulty levels
- 20: The vast majority prefers constraints that are transparent
- 21..22: Concerning relative scoring,
about 2/3 does not mind if the organizers have no solution
in advance, but 1/3 finds this not acceptable;
The opinion on whether contestants should have a stopping criterion
is split more evenly.
- 23: 2/3 of the respondents provide further comments.
